Why Mala Beads and how do they fit in with Reiki and Yoga, since they are not part of the precepts for these practices? Traditionally, Mala beads are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra. The word Mala translates as Garland.  

Mala beads are not just for meditation. I wear them all the time because of the beautiful healing energy the mantras and stones emit and how amazing they make me feel,  mind, body, and spirit. I have worked with crystals for many years and often use them to enhance my personal and professional practice in Reiki and Yoga. In that sense,  wearing your Mala “garland,” is like wearing your Reiki and Yoga practice. 

All of my Mala garlands are handmade with natural stones, and designed specifically for you. Every stone including wood, has a unique vibration and healing energy. My Malas are made with love and embued with the beautiful healing energy of Reiki. Each Mala is individually designed for my customer. ABOUT MALA BEADS: Every part of a Mala has meaning. Traditionally, there are 108 beads on a Mala,  which has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism. There are many stories as to why, so in keeping with that tradition, my Mala also have 108 beads.  Between each bead there is a knot. The knots represent unknotting yourself of past hurts, painful experiences, fears, and worries.   The cord running through the Mala connecting the tassel, symbolize our connection to the Divine and the inherent oneness of the universe. 

When creating the knots I place specific mantras, for love, protection, strength, peace, success, etc., so the energy of the natural stone beads and Mantra, will surround you when wearing your Mala.  

Tying the Mala ends together has two knots. One for Female energy (Moon energy)  and one for Male energy (Sun energy), to bring “oneness.”

The Guru bead represents your spiritual teachers. This bead joins the two sides of the Mala together and is tied with one knot, for “Oneness.”  The tassel has 27 loops.  27 is also a spiritual number.  27x4=108 also the number 27 carries the energy of Angels and our soul’s mission.  Alone 2 symbolizes intuition, balance, harmony, and 7 signifies inner wisdom and overcoming challenges. 2+7=9 and 9 symbolizes our soul’s evolution and ending of all things which no longer serve us. 

The tassel represents the roots of the Lotus, to remind the wearer of the analogy of “no mud, no lotus.” There can be no lotus flower without the mud.”  The tassel has served as a talisman and symbol of power, protection, and spiritual connection.

The thread that ties the tassel to the Mala has 3 knots. The first knot is tied for grounding energy, Root Chakra, Mother Earth energy. The second knot, is for the left side of body and is for Moon Energy, “receiving” energy.  The third knot is for the right side of the body, Sun Energy, “giving” Energy.   3 knots for Trinity.   3 again is a Spiritual number. The thread around the outside of the Tassel is wrapped 5 times for the Elements. One for Sun, Fire, Air, Earth, and Water. Then ended with 2 knots.  One for Female, One for Male, again, “Oneness.”

Cutting the loops to open the tassel is cutting away negative energy.  Cutting away any darkness.  Cutting away things that no longer serve us, creating purity for your new Mala.  

I generally create my Mala’s with smaller beads (6-7mm), so they can be worn comfortably, under clothes, against the skin to feel the energy from the natural beads, however, will also make to order with larger 8mm beads.
